"Owing to the generosity of Quebecers, 513 organs from 151 deceased donors in 2008 were retrieved and transplanted, a record in the history of Québec-Transplant. Indeed in comparison to 2007, this represents a 7.9% increase in the number of donors and an 9.4% increase in the number of available organs for transplantation. According to Québec-Transplant’s preliminary statistical data, 453 persons were transplanted." (

A new record they say. Still, there are many people dying because of those who don't sign their card. For 1202 persons, only 138 are donors. Luckily, about 3 to 4 organs can be transplanted by person, which means that about 400 to 500 have been transplanted in 2009, on 1202 persons (found on the Québec-Transplant website). I think we can do something about it by doing a simple little movement: signing our card! It's not much to ask, but some people still wait and wait, and when it's the end, it's too late. The 3 to 8 peersons they could have saved have to wait years again. Another thing is that, according to
http://www.signezdon.ca/, in nine case out of ten organ donation helps families deal with grief they have to go through. Also, about 50 persons die each year waiting for a new organ or more. Yes, sometimes people need more than one organ to be transplanted, which makes the waiting even longer.

I will soon post either new messages, testimonies, videos and links about organ donation.
